For the last several weeks, I've written about how various writing strategies and tips, but where is a good place to write down your story and/or outline for your story? I have several places where I personally like to write that provide a relaxing writing environment for me. Now, the areas where I like to write might not work for you since we all have our own tastes and preferences. These are simply some suggestions that might work for you.
One of my key requirements for a writing space is having a window or some of sort of glass wall in the room. I like being able to have a view outside since the lighting of the day as well as a simple breeze, bird flying by, etc. all provide a peaceful atmosphere for me. It gives you a momentary pause in your writing to think over the next paragraph or to rest your eyes a little bit.
Now, I mention a glass wall too because in the past, I've had to write a chapter on my college campus and not all of the rooms have nice windows or windows at all. So, I tracked down buildings that had glass walls in the room in place of regular walls. They can operate like a window as well, except that you're just viewing the rest of the building instead of outside. In other words, windows aren't always an option, so if you like having an open space to gaze at while writing, try to find substitutes. It may take a few extra minutes to get to the location, but I find that it's worth it when you're writing that one intense chapter and you really need a suitable writing space that works for you.
Another place that I enjoy writing in is high-up areas. They provide a nice view of the surrounding area, and they tend to be quieter than the shops/rooms on the lower floors of buildings. Of course, make sure that you're allowed onto the top floors before going there. And if you're not a fan of heights, having a window or some suitable viewing source works well too.
This brings me onto the third and final place for today's post: quiet areas. I'm not a fan of writing in loud areas unless I have headphones and a nice set of music on standby. So if you don't like heights but you like the quiet, you still can find small areas spread around where you live if you'd rather not write in your room or home. Granted, make sure they're safe, and you're not heading there in the early morning hours unless it's something like a restaurant that's open late. Some examples of these places are more local coffee shops/cafes/restaurants during non-peak hours of the day and certain benches/sitting areas on college campuses generally are less frequented than others. If you don't attend college, college campuses still work if they're public. Anyway, I hope that this helps!
