There's no single method on how to improve writing, and there are a multitude of tips out there. And, the tips provided here are simply ones that have helped me advance my writing over the years. One of the first tips is to have an open mind to critiques. Some you may disagree with, and that's completely okay. But, it's important to be willing to read the critiques and understand where the person is coming from since they sometimes have valuable and/or valid advice about grammar, dialogue, etc.
On a similar note, you need to be open to changing your writing style, or rather making adjustments along the way. I often fall into the trap of using the same transition word countless times at the beginning of my sentences, and I've received multiple comments about it. With that in mind, I've done my best to remember those critiques and adjust my writing. Sometimes, I still fall into the habit, and it's okay if that happens with your writing. Just be aware of such things and do your best to modify your writing style to fit your needs. Whether that means reducing repetition of words, fixing confusing sentence structures, etc.
A final tip for today is edit your work at least once before you publish a chapter on a writing site. If you're formally publishing a book and self-editing, I usually do three edits. The reason being that you'll probably catch minor mistakes throughout your writing. There might be a misspelling, some auto-correct function that screwed up your writing, a missing article, etc. And, maybe, you don't have any mistakes, but it's still good to check at least once so that you can ensure your quality of writing before you present it to your audience. Anyway, I hope that this helps!
